Tapes: A Song Cycle
"TAPES: A SONG CYCLE" is a fan-based charity project inspired by Jay Asher's critically acclaimed novel "13 Reasons Why". It is a compilation- featuring musical theater fusion styles such as Rock, Pop, Hip hop, R&B, Neo Soul, Folk and EDM. The concept is that through the album, the characters retell the story of Hannah Baker. The concept is that the characters' dialogue is through song, in the style of music that they would listen to.
Joriah Kwame was inspired to retell this story through song after the loss of a best friend to suicide. Because of this unfortunate experience, It became very clear how undersaturated education and the media is with accurate representations of suicide and the effects it has on involved parties. Being a huge fan of both the original novel and the subsequent Netflix series, Joriah wanted to create something to pay homage to a franchise that was first in addressing such sensitive and controversial subject matter. There are also educational resources infused into the album.
