The Green is a sung though interactive theater experience written by Joriah Kwame. Featuring an indulgent and eclectic R&B musical theater score and an emotional story line. It tells the story of MANHATTAN, a troubled middle aged woman who is struggling to find happiness in her life and with her husband, AFGHANISTAN, who has recently returned home after being deployed in the Middle east. She learns about herself and her past through the story of TAMPA, a young blossoming Musical Theater actress who has just moved to New York with the love of her life-ORLANDO.
The Green's stage reading was originally performed at Michigan State University in 2016, followed by a student directed production in 2017.
The Green is currently undergoing a facelift to develop the script into an interactive dinner theater experience, featuring actors that double as musicians, bartenders and waitresses during the performance. The new production will premiere in the summer of 2019 in Kalamazoo, MI.
Below is a reel of the entire show from MSU’s staged reading in 2016, featuring Teriah Fleming as Manhattan, Maria Hart as Tampa, Greg Hunter as Afghanistan, and Jacob Covert as Orlando.
